VANQUISH

ACRYLIC ON STRETCHED CANVAS

24 × 24 inches (60.1 cm)

Commissioned by the Death Metal band INCANTATION in 2012 for their seventh full length release on Listenable Records, “Vanquish In Vengeance”.

Originally given an impossible 40 hour deadline, the painting was completed in 9 days, with no guidance on the concept aside from some of the album’s lyrics. The concept I intended to illustrate was an attempt at a representation of the way organized religion, represented by the book and the authoritative figure holding it, is a pinnacle of conflict, suffering and chaos.

Since it was left up to me, I chose to do a monochrome image, since the impossible deadline wouldn't allow for a more involved color palette, bright colors being the traditional Death Metal choice.

I included a myself in a cameo on the bottom left of the image, standing among the observers.

The band was divided on whether or not to use the painting at all, however my patron, John McEntee, prevailed. The general “scene” reaction to the painting was also divided, which I was pleased to discover, personally abhorring the mediocrity that would’ve have been more acceptable by a wider, more trend centered audience.

A parody image appeared shortly after the reveal, which featured a beach ball at a hippy concert venue, in place of the book and peasantry of the painting, which as an artist resistant to commercial exposure, was something I was thoroughly proud of and amused with. I intended to include the image here but I couldn't find it anywhere online or in my files unfortunately.

Another point of pride for me is that John McEntee has called "Vanquish in Vengeance" his favorite Incantation release.

Because of the unpredictable chaos taking place in international shipping scenarios, interested buyers should contact me to discuss shipping options before purchasing.

The shipment of stretched canvas paintings comes with certain hazards that should be considered in regard to packing and insurance. If you decide to purchase the painting without discussing options, I will ship the painting with the least expensive options. The shipping weight indicated on this painting has been adjusted to include the minimum required packaging necessary for safe shipping.

RETURN information: The buyer has 10 (ten) days after delivery to initiate a return process for the painting. The buyer assumes responsibility for return shipping costs, including insurance.

The buyer agrees to a 10% restocking fee.

Please note the buyer does not retain commercial reproduction rights or copyrights upon purchase.
